The HK Recreation Department has discounted tickets. Avoid waiting in long lines by purchasing tickets in advance at our office. What a great deal! Fun for the entire family! Tickets are good any day of the season - but please check with the parks to find out the dates they are open to the public!

Six Flags New England
Fun rollercoasters & the waterpark Hurricane Harbor make for a fun day for everyone! Thrill seekers will enjoy the Dark Night Coaster and the newly improved Superman Ride of Steel. Little ones can enjoy Thomas TownSM and Wiggles World. Visit www.sixflags/newengland.com for more information.

Lake Compounce

Kid's Entertainment Extravaganza

The HK Recreation Department has booked some funtastic shows. Children enrolled in our summer camp that week will be attending the show free of charge. All shows are at the HK HS Auditorium and are $2 per person.

World Class BMX Show

Meet 2 World Class BMX athletes! Kevin & Chris will bring their bikes and wow the audience with incredible bike stunts along with a speaking presentation to deal with today's difficult issues such as Bullying, Cyber bullying, Conflict Resolution, Character Building, & Perseverance. Kevin Robinson is an 8 time X-Games medalist, including 4 Gold medals. Chris Poulos is a world champion BMX Flatland champion.


Vic and Stics - Recycling Band

Picnic Kits

The HK Recreation Dept. will assemble picnic kits for residents. Kits may include: portable volleyball net/ball, softball equipment, pillo-polo, frisbees, coolers, whiffle ball equipment, etc. Kits are FREE, but a $15 refundable deposit is required. Please call 345-8334 in advance to reserve your kit.

 

 

Adult Programs

Canine Encounters - Dog Obedience

Learn how to teach your dog. Classes provide socialization in a group setting and enhances the relationship between owner & dog through a partnership which is developed during training. Communication, positive reinforcement, repetition, consistency, and timing are combined to establish bonding and skills. The basic commands such as sit, stay/wait, down, heel, the recall (come when called), and stand will be taught in a positive and fun atmosphere. The goal is not a controlled pet, but rather a well mannered, enjoyable, and loved companion. The 1st class is on theory & is for owners only.

Golf Fundamentals

Learn the fundamentals, feel the golf swing, and take it to the golf course. This class is designed for those who have taken lessons before and want to take their game to the next level. Instruction includes full swing, short game, course strategy, rules and etiquette. Classes will be held at a Par 3 course - a great opportunity for on-course coaching. Please bring clubs.

CT Basic Boat Course

This D.E.P. course includes instruction in legal requirements, navigation rules, safety afloat and other topics that will help participants become knowledgeable and safe boaters. Students passing this course will satisfy the requirements for the CT Safe Boating Certificate and Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation.

Kayaking Workshops

Quick Start / Intro. to Kayaking is designed to teach or refine basic strokes necessary for competent paddling, including bracing high and low, sculling, sweep, & draw strokes. Includes safe paddling practices. Rolling, Rescue, & Safety will teach you how to react and gain confidence in adverse conditions, cover the fundamental components, and practice good judgement. Fitness Yoga


Journey through a mind-body class. Discover the strength and cardiovascular benefits of this power yoga class and enjoy the relaxation as you reduce stress. Gain flexibility and balance through a flow of yoga poses. This is a great class for all levels including advanced, intermediate, and beginners. Please bring a yoga mat or towel to class.

Zumba!

Spice up your summer and try Zumba - a new Latin inspired dance/fitness craze. Traditional Latin dances are mixed with modern music and easy to follow choreography to give a great and fun cardio workout. Anyone can Zumba - no dance experience necessary!

Tennis with a Twist

A great opportunity to get some exercise using different tennis drills and improving your game at the same time. Beginners will learn the fundamentals while more experienced players will get a great workout and improve their skills.
