Fitness Yoga
Journey through a mind-body class. Discover the strength and cardiovascular benefits of this power yoga class and enjoy the relaxation as you reduce stress. Gain flexibility and balance through a flow of yoga poses. This is a great class for all levels including advanced, intermediate, and beginners. Get Fit!
Re-shape your body and lose weight at the same time! This personalized class will emphasize safe and effective resistance training techniques to help achieve your fitness goals. A variety of cardiovascular equipment is available such as stationary bikes, elliptical trainers and treadmills. There is also weight training equiment. All ability levels will benefit from this class and participants can workout at their own personal pace. Start the year right and Get Fit!

Zumba!
Zumba is a new Latin inspired dance/fitness craze you don't want to miss. Traditional Latin dances are mixed with modern music and easy to follow choreography to give a great and fun cardio workout. Stretching, abs and toning will also be added. Anyone can Zumba - no dance experience necessary!

Golf Fundamentals
Learn the fundamentals, feel the golf swing, and take it to the golf course. This class is designed for those who have taken lessons before and want to take their game to the next level. Instruction includes full swing, short game, course strategy, rules and etiquette. Classes will be held at the Minor Hills Course (Par 3) in Middletown - a great opportunity for on course coaching. Please bring clubs.Who: Ages 15 & up

Canine Encounters - Dog Obedience
Learn how to teach your dog. Classes provide socialization through a group setting & enhances the relationship between owner & dog through a partnership, developed during training. Communication, positive reinforcement, repetition, consistency, and timing are combined to establish bonding and skills. The basic commands such as sit, stay/wait, down, heel, recall (come when called), and stand will be taught in a positive and fun atmosphere. The goal is not a controlled pet, but rather a well mannered, enjoyable, and loved companion. The 1st class is on theory & is for owners only.Meets: Thursdays

CT Basic Boat Course
Includes instruction in legal requirements, navigation rules, safety afloat, and other topics that will help participants become knowledgeable and safe boaters. Students passing will satisfy the requirements for the CT Safe Boating Certificate and Personal Watercraft Operation.The HK Recreation Department is in the process of trying to set-up a class in the spring. DEP is not setting up classes at this time. Please e-mail

Art Workshops
Session 1 Basic Drawing with Simple Forms and Shapes - Will cover structure and balance, composition and design, rendering techniques drawing, in perspective use of light & shadows, working with gray scales .
Session 2 - Working on Textured Board and Newsprint Pads with Charcoal Media - Will cover texture, shadows with high light, gay tone scale. simple methods in handling charcoals textures and line work, perspective drawing, composition & design, two dimensional, converting shapes to forms and forms into objects.
Session 3 Basic Drawing in Pastels and Colored Chalks - Will cover mixing color combinations, working with texture, pastels paper pads, working from live props and displays, color spectrum and values, using assorted tools and art supplies for pastels, simple portrait drawings, practice exercises in water colors, combining watercolor and acrylic media.
Session 4 Basic Oil Painting Techniques - Will cover use of the color pallet, color wheel, mixing color combinations, working from live props and objects or photos, use of a variety of brushes and aids, preparing a pallet for rendering a picture and use of transfer and preparation on canvas, simple methods on how to enhance oil paintings and combining the use of other media with it.Meets: Wednesdays

Looking to unleash your inner chef? Roll up your sleeves and join Joanna Siciliano for some hands-on cooking and/or baking. At the end of each workshop, you will leave with a packet of info on how to recreate what was made in class and tasty treats for your family to try.
Workshops include:
Session 1: February 16 - Cupcakes! Have fun with some hands-on cupcake decorating. She will show you how to make pieces of edible art using fondant. She will demonstrate 3 different types of cupcake designs that can be used at your childs parties. All ingredients to make your creations will be supplied just bring your creative juices.
Session 2: March 22 - Healthy Dinners! Do you feel you make the same dinners every week? Come learn about and prepare some new healthy meals for you and your families.
Session 3: April 12 - Great Energy Snacks! Do you feel that your kids need a great pick me up snack after school that they will love and is also healthy? Learn all about great after school snacks for your kids. Learn how to make some delicious energy snacks that your kids will want to eat.Meets: ThursdaysTime: 6:30 - 8:00 pm
